About the product

Gaptin 400 Mg 30 Capsules

Description:

Gaptin 400 mg 30 capsules is a prescription oral medicine containing gabapentin, an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain modulator. It is primarily used in the management of partial (focal) seizures and various types of neuropathic pain, such as diabetic neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia. Gaptin 400 mg helps stabilize abnormal electrical activity in the brain and modulates pain signaling in the nervous system, providing effective relief when used under medical supervision.

Indications:

  • Treatment of partial (focal) seizures, with or without secondary generalization, in adults and adolescents as prescribed by a physician.
  • Adjunctive therapy in epilepsy when current antiepileptic treatment is insufficient (as part of a combination regimen).
  • Management of neuropathic pain, including but not limited to diabetic peripheral neuropathy and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain following shingles), as directed by a doctor.
  • Relief of symptoms associated with chronic nerve pain such as burning, tingling, shooting pain, hypersensitivity to touch, and numbness.
  • May be used in other neuropathic pain conditions as determined by a healthcare professional.

Active Ingredients / Key Components:

  • Gabapentin – 400 mg per capsule.
  • Excipients: Other inactive ingredients (capsule shell and fillers) are present but specific excipients and their concentrations , please check the product leaflet or the manufacturer’s official website.

Dosage & Administration / How to Use:

  • Gaptin 400 mg capsules are for oral use only and must be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. Do not adjust the dose without medical advice.
  • General adult dosing (epilepsy / neuropathic pain – based on gabapentin guidelines):
  • Initial dose: commonly started at 300 mg per day, then increased by 300 mg/day over the next 2 days (up to 900 mg/day in 3 divided doses), as per physician judgment.
  • Maintenance dose: usually 900–1800 mg/day in 3 divided doses (e.g., one 300–600 mg capsule three times daily), adjusted according to response and tolerability.
  • Maximum dose: up to 3600 mg/day (in divided doses) may be used in selected patients under strict medical supervision.
  • Adolescents > 12 years: treatment is generally started at 10 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses, then gradually increased until adequate control or pain relief is achieved, as directed by the doctor.
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
  • Can be taken with or without food; taking with food may help reduce stomach discomfort in sensitive patients.
  • Take doses at evenly spaced intervals (e.g., morning, afternoon, evening) to maintain stable blood levels.
  • If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
  • Do not stop taking Gaptin suddenly without consulting your doctor, as abrupt discontinuation may increase seizure risk or worsen neuropathic pain. Dose should be tapered gradually under medical supervision.
  • Patients with kidney (renal) impairment may require dose adjustment; follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Clinical Benefits:

  • Helps control partial (focal) seizures by stabilizing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
  • Reduces neuropathic pain intensity, including burning, shooting, and tingling sensations associated with nerve damage.
  • Improves quality of life in patients with chronic nerve pain by enhancing comfort and daily functioning.
  • Can be used as add-on therapy with other antiepileptic drugs to achieve better seizure control when monotherapy is insufficient.
  • May help decrease sleep disturbances related to chronic neuropathic pain by reducing nighttime pain episodes.

Warnings & Contraindications:

  • Use only under medical supervision. Gaptin 400 mg is a prescription medicine and should not be used without a doctor’s recommendation.
  • Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity or allergy to gabapentin or any of the capsule components.
  • Use with caution in patients with kidney (renal) impairment; dose adjustment is often required. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney disease.
  • May cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing tasks that require alertness until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • Concomitant use with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants (such as sedatives, sleeping pills, or strong painkillers) may increase drowsiness and dizziness; consult your doctor before combining.
  • There have been reports of mood changes, depression, and suicidal thoughts with antiepileptic drugs, including gabapentin. Seek immediate medical advice if you experience mood changes, suicidal ideation, or unusual behavioral changes.
  • Use in pregnancy and breastfeeding only if clearly needed and strictly under medical supervision. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Do not stop treatment abruptly, especially in epilepsy, as this may increase seizure frequency. Dose should be tapered gradually as advised by your physician.
  • Inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking, including antacids, opioids, antiepileptics, and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.
  • Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease without proper medical evaluation and prescription.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, tremor, blurred vision, and coordination problems (ataxia).
  • Gastrointestinal effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, or abdominal pain may occur in some patients.
  • Other possible side effects include weight gain, peripheral edema (swelling of legs or hands), dry mouth, and mild mood changes.
  • Serious side effects (seek immediate medical attention): severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing), severe dizziness, extreme drowsiness, suicidal thoughts, marked mood or behavior changes, or severe skin reactions.
